Probiotics for Human Nutrition :
Probiotics: the term “probiotics”, as an antonym to the term
“antibiotic” was proposed in 1965 and was defined as “live microbial
food supplement, which beneficially affects the host by improving its
intestinal microbial balance”. The concept is not new. At the turn of
the century, Metchnikoff suggested that the consumption of live microbes
in fermented milk products maintains this balance betwen pathogenic and
non-pathogenic bacteria, at least in part, and that explains why certain
ethnic groups lived longer.
Prebiotics: over the last few years, the concept of “prebiotics” has
ariesen. This term generally refers to non-digestible substances that
preferentially enhances the growth of non-pathogenic stains, which may
have a probiotic effect.
Consumers have been attracted for many years by the properties of
certain lactic and acid bacteria and bifidobacteria as major biological
regulators of the gastrointestinal tract.
The healthy foods and bioproducts made by Lactina Ltd. Are new
generation of probiotics and prebiotics containing stains of lactic acid
bacteria isolated from natural resources that are selected according to
their functional characteristics.
Lactobacillus Bulgaricus has a special role among lactic acid bacteria
with probiotic activity due to its unique properties.
The possibillity to control all biotechnological processes, lactic acid
fermentation and automated specific rate of freeze-drying is a guarantee
for permanent quality of the end product.
